What is Branding and Why is it Important?

I love branding. I spend hours looking at peoples branding boards and inspirations and it is a big part of what I do. Part of having an awesome social media plan is having killer branding.

Most people think that branding is just a logo or packaging, but that's not necessarily true. Those things are all part of branding, but branding is a little bit vaguer than that and it can be hard to explain exactly what it is.

The reason branding is so hard to explain it because it has a lot to do with emotion. The easiest way to put it is that branding is your business personality. Your logo, colors, font, and packaging are tools to help you convey your business personality to others. Kind of like how we use fashion to express ourselves.

Why should you brand your business?

Branding is one of the first things I go over with a new client. If they do not already have a brand in place it is the first thing we work on.

First Impressions

On average you have 10 seconds to convince a visitor to stay on your website, or they are gone Forever.

So what can you do in 10 seconds to make sure they stay?

The answer is pretty simple, you need to visually communicate with them in those 10 seconds what your business is about and how it can add some kind of value to their life.

Your branding will help establish what your business is about before they even think about going to your about page.

Setting Your Intention

Your branding will help communicate what your niche is. Your niche is what you post about. Posting about your chosen niche will help your followers feel comfortable coming to you for information and will help establish you as an expert in your field.

If someone is thinking of following you or using your services then they will be looking for security and certainty. By keeping up your focus on your branding, your audience will feel secure that you will be staying ‘on topic’ and there won’t be any unsettling changes down the line.

Familiarity

Branding builds a sense of trust and familiarity with your followers and customers. One of the for sure ways to know your branding is a good as it can be is if your followers can spot your content anywhere, on any social media platform, and know it is yours even if your logo is not there.

Having a solid brand established will not only help your followers stick around, but it will also help establish trust with your followers. From a business perspective the trust and loyalty of your readership can lead to increased visibility in your marketing, increased brand engagement and ultimately, sales.
